On Tuesday night, the People’s Project team was joined by around 45 guests from the Hamilton Business Association as we hosted their “Business After 5” event at our Warehouse.
Many of the guests were surprised to find that they were not entering a cold, grey concrete warehouse, but a bright, warm and inviting space where we display and store the furniture and household items kindly donated to help people moving into a new house, make it their home. Not surprisingly, most homeless people don’t have a lot of household possessions, so our Warehouse gives them a hand-up (not a hand-out) to equip their homes without getting into debt.
And with our ambitious aim to fill the Warehouse shelves, this was also a great way to secure more support, with many individuals and companies pledging donations on the night.
It was a lively and engaging night, with the Mayor Julie Hardaker and two of her Councillors in attendance. We were also lucky to enjoy the voluntary catering services of the fantastic students from NZMA who prepared and served the drinks and nibbles.
