The People’s Project Turns Ten!

14 August 2024

The People’s Project began ten years ago in August 2014. From a small team of five on the corner of Victoria Street, the service now has two offices in Hamilton and Tauranga. We employ around 50 staff and work with hundreds of people each year who are experiencing homelessness in both regions.

The People’s Project (TPP) was an early adopter of the Housing First model, and we are pleased this approach has become a nationally recognised and highly respected model for working with people experiencing homelessness. We are also proud that TPP has achieved such extraordinary results in a five-year study of our service.

General Manager Kerry Hawkes says, “The success of The People’s Project is down to the people: the people who had the vision for the service and got it going, the people we work with, the sector partners who have been an integral part of TPP since the beginning, and the people who work for the service. We have been incredibly privileged to work with some amazing people over the yearsOur heartfelt thanks go out to everybody who has been a part of the first ten years of TPP.”

We look forward to formally marking this anniversary with staff, clients and community partners on World Homelessness Day in October.
